    2 ½" Spanner Wrenches (2)
    Rubber Mallet
    2 ½" Double Male Adapter
    5" Storz x 4 ½" nst. Adapter
    2 ½" Female x 1 ½" Male Adapter
    LDH Spanner Wrenches (2)

    Procedures:

FIREFIGHTERS WILL WEAR THEIR FULL PPE, BUNKER GEAR, HELMET, AND FIRE GLOVES.
    • Truck officer or senior firefighter will make decision which firefighter will be responsible for hydrant operations. NOTE: THE TRUCK OFFICER (LINE OR SENIOR FIREFIGHTER) WILL OCCUPY THE OFFICER SEAT ON THE APPARTUS.
    • The driver will position the pumper at designated hydrant. Firefighter responsible for hydrant operation will unbuckle his/her seatbelt, will take a UHF portable radio (putting the portable radio on BVFA TAC channel 6). On night time operation the firefighter will also take a hand light. Disembark the pumper after checking traffic in both directions and it is safe to do so.
    • Remove the hydrant bag from the tailboard (Eng 1) or rear compartment (Eng 2&3) and place near the hydrant (winter operations bring a shovel).
    • Remove 5" hose from hose bed and wrap the hose around hydrant, and then will notify the driver by radio or hand signal to proceed to the scene (the pumper speed should be appropriate for conditions, not to exceed 15 MHP).
    • Open the steamer cap and flush the hydrant.
    • Open 2 ½" cap.
    • Attach 4 ½" nst. x 5" Storz connection to the steamer and connect the 5" hose.
    • Attach 2 ½" hydrant gate to the open 2 ½" steamer (keep hydrant gate in off position).
    • The pump operator will indicate by turning on the yellow hydrant light and/or by radio when he/she is ready for water. After receiving the ready for water signal, charge the 5" hose by turning on 13 turns.
    • Charge 5" hose when pump operation gives you signal (yellow strobes) or by radio.
    • After charging the 5" hose, walk a safe distance away from the hose checking for leaks or any other problems. Inform the pump operator of any serious problems which may jeopardize the water supply.
    • After you have completed this task, report to the operation officer for another task.
